How sending a meal works

1

Choose the food

A package for 20, 25 or 30 people, with or without lox, or platters one by one.

2

Pick a date, add a note

The shiva house address, the day and time that fit the shiva hours, who it's from and a few words.

3

We confirm and deliver

We confirm the order and final total with you (not the family) by phone or email, then deliver with care.

No payment on the website. Pay by e-Transfer or cash after we confirm.

What you'll fill in

Have these ready

  • The family's name and the shiva house address (with unit or buzzer number).
  • A contact at the house if you have one, so we can reach someone on arrival.
  • The delivery date and time. Please check the shiva hours with the family or organiser.
  • The "from" names and a short gift note. We include your note with the delivery.
  • Your own name, phone and email, so we confirm with you, not with the family.

Delivery to the shiva house

  • Delivery fee: based on location.
  • Delivery area: the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), plus Aurora, Newmarket and Stouffville.
  • How far ahead: please order at least 12 hours ahead. If it's urgent, please call 416-816-1073
  • We confirm: a real person confirms every order and the final total by phone or email before delivery.
  • Payment: by e-Transfer or cash, after we confirm.
  • Nothing to return: all food is presented on disposable platters, included in the package price. No platter returns or pick-up required.

Example gift notes

"Thinking of you and your family. With love, from the Smith family."

"May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. From your friends at shul."

"We're so sorry. Please don't worry about lunch today, we've got it. From all of us at work."

For meal-train organisers

One link for the whole group

Coordinating food for the week in a Facebook group, WhatsApp chat or email? Share this page. Each person can request their own date, with their own note.

Share the meal train order page. Each person adds the meal train name or number, picks their date and sends their order.

Example message: "The [family name] family is sitting shiva at [address] until [date]. If you'd like to send a meal, pick a free date on our list and order here:ljkitchen.ca/meal-train"

Tips that help

  • One person per date. Keep a simple list so the family isn't sent too much food on one day and none on the next.
  • Put the family name and date in the note so everything arrives at the right house on the right day.
  • Check the shiva hours with the family (or someone close to them) before choosing a delivery time.
  • Order at least 12 hours ahead. For last-minute help, call 416-816-1073
